I wanted to provide you an update regarding Violent crime, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Statement on behalf of the NE BCU Police Encounter Panel The NE BCU Police Encounter Panel met at Plaistow Police Station on Tuesday, 16th September 2025. The panel, comprising local community members who live or work in Newham and Waltham Forest, reviewed body-worn camera footage of two incidents involving the use of a red dot taser. The incidents selected involved demographics including white and black individuals. The panel noted the following: • The red dot taser was used effectively and appropriately to gain control in both situations. • Officers were respectful and professional in their physical and verbal interactions with the individuals. • There was no difference in the way the black and white individuals were treated. • Some minor procedural points for improvement were identified. As with all body-worn video footage reviewed, feedback from senior management and the community panel will be provided to the officers concerned.
